The theme of this week is new-roomie drama - YAY! My favourite stuff to deal with.
So the new roomie has been around for a week and so far I've spoken to her once, which was that first conversation we had the first time I met her. Since then all I ever see is her legs when I come back home. I know that my other roomies aren't too fond her though, and because she goes to sleep and wakes up so early she tends to disrupt our daily schedule. I understand there's the whole idea of being considerate to your roomies but when all 5 of your roomies don't go to sleep until around 3 AM in the morning and you decide to sleep at midnight and wake up at 9-10AM... I dunno, I think in this case it's her turn to be a bit more understanding of our schedule.
But that's not the point.
So up until this moment, nothing has really happened to make me dislike our new roomie - I just never see or talk to her, and it's kind of like a stranger has moved in to our apartment and continues being a stranger. On top of that, I can't say that... I really like her either? I couldn't be friends with her, I don't think I really have much to say to her either. I'm kind of glad I just keep in my own space and she just keeps in hers.
Then the 28th happened. So, originally I didn't really have any plans aside from a party that everyone was going to that night (all the roomies had the day off), but instead I ended up going to eat freshly-made crepes at a friends room and then going to a BBQ at the beach. One of my roomies was celebrating a birthday party for one of her coworkers, it was good fun - swimming and basking in the sunshine and a nice day off. Then things got a bit weird after that. Half of my roomies then went to Round 1 - a big sports/game complex, but then she left her Japanese friend in our apartment because we only had 1 car and too many people wanted to go... which was a tad awkward cause I'm not really friends with her. We tried really hard to keep her occupied until 10:30PM which was when roomies said they'd return, they didn't come back until 12.
Then we headed to the party - it was someones birthday - and it was at karaoke. We went, entered the big karaoke room, everyone was super drunk and there was literally no where to sit but a smaller room had also been provided and we crawled in to that.................. and then we had to leave 1 hour later and pay $13 (1300yen) for everything. To be honest I hadn't wanted to go to the party in the first place but since our roomie had come back to pick us up, and she was tired, I decided it was better to go. The money sucked, the fact that we only stayed for ONE HOUR sucked... and then my roomie who had been driving all day was obviously getting really pissed off and annoyed at the situation.
And the icing on the cake? New roomie got absolutely smashed - couldn't even walk straight or support herself. She threw up on the side of the car.
Now that's a huge bummer on a rent-a-car, no one was happy with how drunk she was, we bitched about it, and to be honest I was content to leave it at that, but another roomie blew it out of proportion and complained to the hotel.
I mean, I've already said none of really like her or get along with her, but like I said, she hasn't really done anything UP UNTIL THAT POINT, that actually counts as being unacceptable. Sleeping earlier than us, taking awful long showers, and being an awkward person in general does not warrant a new roommate - but neither does one drunk indiscretion. Am I weird to think that my roomie took it a bit far to actually complain just because she got shit-faced once?
Anyway - obviously new roomie got a notice saying that "someone complained" but anyone with half a brain would know it was one of us. Puts us in a sticky situation because as much as I don't want to rat my roomie out, I don't exactly agree with the decision she made. I think it was unfair and uncalled for - especially since the claims she put on our new roomie are ultimately face. Yes she got drunk once, she threw up on our roomies rent-a-car.... once.
Interesting tidbit, had a day off on the 30th as well, in which I didn't do much -
but I went to eat lunch at the hotel. At lunch new roomie also came to
sit down for a bit and the first thing she says is that she received a
complained from the hotel, and "why would they complain about her?" and
"It was all lies" (which was actually true because apparently her email
said she got drunk and was loud every night...) and that was a bit
awkward because... obvious reasons. Thankfully she wasn't actually
talking to me. The thing was though, that the people she was supposedly
talking to her (two other new foreigners who she had actually come with)
barely gave her the time of day. They just seemed to shrug and say "oh
that's weird" and leave it at that. I mean, she didn't have much time to
stay and chat anyway, but I had always assumed she was friends with
those guys, and... well, looks like I was wrong? At the time I was just
incredibly relieved they didn't seem more interested in her problem
because that would have caused issues with me being there, but in
hindsight... it is a bit odd that they seemed to be so disinterested in
her story.
Aside from that... I mean that's all I really remember. Week has been largely uneventful past that. I guess that's a good thing though, anything beyond roommate drama and shitty nights out and I'd be all ready to pack my bags and just get the hell home.
