Summer 2014 - Okinawa, Japan [Week 3/12]

I had a line of day off's this week and am now in the middle of a 6 day stretch - so what stories do I have to tell from my third week in sunny Okinawa?

Well we got four new people who came in (as I might've mentioned from last week) and I still haven't met the guy, but I've met all the girls. One of them works with me at the restaurant - she came from Canada but she's originally Russian. The other two are German, and Chinese but from the UK (Welsh) - they're both bellhops. Not much to say about them (not the gossip-y type), but they're all nice and I get along with them. It's refreshing to have an English speaking person at the restaurant I work at - even if I won't be working there anymore starting tomorrow! There have actually been a lot of new people at the restaurant I'm working at thought - and a lot of them are students (High school part-timers and interns from technical colleges). Due to the amount of days off I had though (11th, 13, 15th) I haven't had too much time to talk to these knew people and now I'm off at another place - kind of sad but also really excited. Can't wait!

The big thing of this week though? We have a creepy neighbour!

I won't go in to too much detail but the story pretty much is this:

On the day I went to Shuri Castle, three Japanese guys drove us with their cars. Two of them actually live in the room beside us. A couple days after Shuri Castle, one of the guys was over at our apartment and one of my roomies said they had been playing games. I thought she had invited him over which meant that I thought they were relatively good friends. The day before the typhoon (so the night it first hit) he also came over - again I thought he had been invited. He actually ended up sleeping over that night - passed out right on the floor - I was surprised but I thought maybe he had just been super tired.

Then, on my latest day off which was the 15th, my other roomie who also had a day off had come back from a little shopping trip. She had a bit of a mix-up about borrowing someone's car though - so that person actually came to our apartment and they stepped out of the apartment to talk it over. During that time, next-door neighbour guy came into our apartment. I was pretty surprised and I even asked him "why are you here (nande?)" and he mentioned that he saw my roomie outside so I thought she had invited him in.

TURNS OUT: every single time he came to our place it was uninvited. He would literally just knock on our door and then step in. The thing is the three people I share a room with all thought he came over cause he was friends with our other two roomies - apparently not. Then we learned he actually had a bit of history with one of our roomies - so maybe that's why he keeps visiting? But he always leaves before he can see her. Honestly we don't know why he keeps coming in to our room - all he does is watch TV, eat, and sleep, which he can do at his own place. We've been warned by other Japanese people to stop letting him in and we've been actively trying to do so (making sure door is lock, chain is pulled etc.).

What makes his behaviour extra creepy is that he actually lied about his age to us - he told us he's 22/23 when really he's 31 or something. So... yeah - creepy Japanese neighbour. Great. Hopefully he got the hint that we don't want him around anymore and he'll stop knocking on our door?

So that's the big thing from this week.

Aside from that work has has been super NOT BUSY AND BORING AS HELL. Also new girl... she spends way too much time texting her boyfriend. Let's just say that her boyfriend actually came to Okinawa to visit, and he came to our restaurant, and she was STILL MESSAGING HIM. She's also got a very nervous personality so... yeah. Aside from that she's pretty nice I guess. Can't see myself hanging out with her on our days off, but for a co-worker? Why not.

Until next week!
