And here we are, only three weeks left to go - WHAT?!
We'll talk about today first, and then work backwards okay? So I made plans with a coworker to eat pancakes today, which to be honest I wasn't that excited about because I was exhausted yesterday and was not in the mood to wake up "early" to eat pancakes with a person I don't have that much to talk about with. But I did, and ate pancakes, and it was... okay I guess. I was tired, not much appetite, and conversation was okay for the most part I guess. Then I sat around reading the 3rd book in Tamora Pierce's "The Circle Opens" quartet, Cold Fire.
Let's just say that within the week I got all the Emelen books from Tamora Pierce on my ereader and have been reading them obsessively for the past week. I've gone through the first quartet in this universe and am almost done the second quartet (only Shatterglass left). But again, because this is my travel blog - I'm not going to say too much. Just that I'm excited to move on to the next book after Shatterglass because it has all four main characters together again and that's what I like best (or Briar and Rosethorn). But yeah, so reading is consuming my life. I wouldn't have bothered updating today, or even using the computer at all, but since I finished Cold Fire, I was like.. I haven't been on the internet properly in at least 3-4 days, let's see what's going on.
Oh yeah - Robert Williams died. Whaaaaat! But back to my day off, so I was on the internet catching up on stuff, and then decided to do a bit of cleaning. Our ofuro (bath/shower room) was disgusting. Mould (at least I think it was mould because it was black and all over the floor and walls) was everywhere, and there was this funky smell. So I cleaned it out because... ew? So that was my day off today. No one else had the day off that I know off, or that I would particularly like to spend time with, so... yeah, no plans.
But big topic of this week was this annoying American/Russian guy I had to deal with at work (I had 6 days straight of work since my last day off so I have a lot of stories about work this week!). So he came on August 2 and apparently on that day his credit card didn't work, so he used his wife's card to pay... but he checks his bank statement and it said he got charged by the hotel on his card! So this guy comes all the way back to Rizzan even though he lives at the Kaneda airbase to ask the hotel to give him his money back... and the problem doesn't even lie with the hotel - it was with his credit card! I mean I get he was pissed off, but the thing was the hotel had no record of receiving money from his card because his card had never worked, it kept saying "error" - so ultimately the hotel had to contact VISA and the guy was not understanding this? He honestly seemed to think that the hotel would just... give him his money back even though it's kind of like - dude the hotel never received your money, you need to get it back from VISA. I don't even understand why he didn't contact his credit card company first - isn't that generally what you do when you see a payment in your bank statement that you didn't pay for?
Anyway it was not fun translating all this out. I also had to phone him back the day after (this all occurred on Sunday or something, so called him back Monday) to say that VISA needs his credit card number to find out which account is his and so he should just phone VISA himself and settle the matter that way. He was not happy saying how he "wasted his time" and it's like - if you had just used your brain and called VISA in the first place things would have been easier. VISA would have contacted the hotel themselves to verify the amount and then the hotel could have just been like "we have no record of this" instead of the guy coming to the hotel first. Honestly - I don't know a thing about credit cards but I feel like this is how things work, no?
Also - at work, I've gotten the job recently of being the runner. This is the person who gets told what food is running out from the buffet and runs to the kitchen, tells the chefs, and then gets the stuff to refill. I'm pretty shit at it I think, but I try. They also seem to want to start teaching me how to set and take down the buffet before and after dinner - not a fun job. I prefer drinks :(
Final thing about work, annoying coworker who can't do her job properly. I mean, I thought I was bad but I try. I really do. She just... I mean she's the type of person who can do the same job 5 times and still not know or understand how to do it properly - she'll just hand it off to someone else and then not figure out how to do it herself. I mean, I don't mind talking to her but god she pisses me off. She had to do drinks for a day because she wanted to try it, that was a disaster. Then yesterday all she had to do was desserts - easy job, refill the cakes, and somehow half the time the dessert area was empty because she never bothered to check it. She's also always apologizing for missing work and stuff... :|
Anyway - it's 7:30 almost and I'm kind of starving because beyond pancakes at 12:00 I haven't had a proper meal, feeling a bit light headed to be honest. Time to eat!
I have a string of day offs coming up too so... hopefully I do something interesting?
